Meniscal preservation is very imprtant for knee function.ACL injuries predispose the individual to Meniscal injuries. Peripheral tears of the mensisci can be repaired before ACL reconstruction. Protected weight bearing for six weeks is mandatory after meniscal repair. With advanced and unreparable tears meniscal transplants are possible from cadavers.    

After an ACL injury early operation will give the orthopedic knee surgeon an opportunity to inspect the joint and suture the menisci if tear has occurred in the vascular zone.
