Patello femoral replacement

What is it?
In this the undersurface of the knee cap( patella) and the corresponding joint surface of the lower end of the thigh bone are replaced with an implant. This differs from the total knee replacement.   

Who needs this ?
Patients whose anterior knee pain continues despite an osteotomy for pain relief. It is superior to a patellectomy(where the knee cap is removed)

How safe is it?
Done in a good operating theatre by a qualified knee surgeon, it is safe.

How effective is it?
It is very effective at pain relief
